The Cross Design Contest 2017 has truly been a great success. This event organised Caesar ended on July 21, 2017 with the meeting of the jury. The contest captivated enthusiasts and professionals of architecture and design all over the world, and involved them in the development of a project capable of interpreting, in an original and creative manner, the trends presented by the company of Fiorano Modenese in the 2016/2017 edition of the Cross Design Magazine 2016/2017. Rise, Reverb and Peaceful were the interior design trends conceived by Caesar to provide the guidelines for the design of an urban loft, which aroused the imagination of a numerous public coming from 62 countries all over the world. At the end of the contest, 102 was the total number of projects presented by competitors coming from 18 states, and all willing to accept the challenge with innovative architectural solutions. On July 21, at the headquarters of Caesar, an international jury of eight experts of the sector, led by Adolfo Tancredi (CEO of Ceramiche Caesar) and by Gabriel Weirich (Chairman of the jury and Professor at the Istituto Europeo di Design) met, along with architects Guglielmo Renzi, Ambrogio Risari and Sara Gilioli, James McLachlan (director of the British magazine ICON), Peter Joehnk (interior designer and founder member of the JOI-Design agency) and Andrew Piepenstock (from the London-based design studio Dalziel and Pow). The first task of the committee was to confer the Web Award to the project ranked as best amongst the five most voted projects of the online community. The award has been conferred to “Le stanze della materia” of the Gruppo MED Architetti Associati in the district of Savona. The project has been inspired by the Reverb trend and is developed over a space that includes all useable day areas, in which the staircase represents the manner to reach the bedroom. The most engaging task of the prestigious jury was selecting the three best works and, amongst these, the winner, the project which will actually be developed inside the Caesar Gallery, the new showroom in Fiorano opening on September 26. The opening event will also become the occasion in which the winner will receive the award. The committee has taken account of the consistency of the project with the three trends, of its conformity, of its feasibility and of its creativity, as well as of its capacity to highlight the value of ceramic material in its complexity. Based on these criteria, 20 finalists have been selected to be analysed in detail. “We have launched this creative contest to involve more and more designers and architects in our world”, said Adolfo Tancredi at the end of the meeting. “Today, creativity in architecture can come from the most diverse elements, even by the simple use of different materials. We believe that Caesar ceramic material can be part of this innovation: what we are looking for is, above all, new ideas”.
